Taipei Health Screening: A New Reason for Malaysian Families to Visit Taiwan

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 October 2026 — Taipei health screening is giving Malaysian families a new reason to visit Taiwan. Taipei is already a favourite for its food, shopping and nature. In 2025 alone, 385,787 Malaysian residents visited Taiwan, and more than 264,000 of them travelled mainly for leisure, according to the Taiwan Tourism Administration.

Now, a holiday can also make room for something families often postpone at home: taking stock of their health, without giving up the rest and family time they had planned.

Why Preventive Health Matters for Malaysians

The National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023 found that 29.2% of Malaysian adults had hypertension, 33.3% had high cholesterol and 15.6% had diabetes. Notably, many adults with raised levels did not know they had these conditions.

However, good screening is not about doing as many tests as possible. Instead, age, family history, risk factors and medical advice should guide which tests are suitable.

The Beitou Model: Taipei Health Screening Meets a Hotel Stay

Under a public-private model promoted by the Taipei City Government, Taipei Beitou Health Management Hospital and Hotel Royal Beitou have come together as the Taipei Wellness Clinic and Resort. The concept combines health management with accommodation, healthy dining and hot springs.

Because both sit in the same development, guests move easily between their assessment and their room. As a result, the trip does not feel like a hospital visit.

Depending on medical suitability, a Taipei health screening here may include MRI and CT imaging, ultrasound, endoscopy and AI-assisted medical imaging. Physicians, nurses, radiologists, dietitians and health managers support each guest.

Results Explained One-on-One by a Physician

Rather than simply handing over a set of numbers, the medical team first reviews the findings. Then a physician explains the available results one-on-one and discusses next steps. In addition, the hospital’s health-management team provides follow-up consultation and guidance.

“Families put a great deal of thought into planning a holiday, planning where to stay, what to eat and how to make meaningful use of their time together. We believe caring for health can be approached with the same intention. Health assessment should be appropriate to the individual. What is important is giving people the opportunity to better understand their current health, speak to a medical professional about the findings and know what they may need to follow up on afterwards.”

From Health Screening to Personalised Health Insights

The hospital has also added Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) to its preventive services. It may offer extra insight for long-term health management. Still, genetic data is only one part of the picture, not a prediction of the future. For this reason, doctors read the results alongside family history and lifestyle.

Health Does Not Have to Take Over the Holiday

Healthcare should not dominate the itinerary. Once they finish the check, families can go back to being travellers.

Beitou is one of Taipei’s best-known hot-spring districts. Visitors can stroll through Beitou Park, explore the Beitou Hot Spring Museum and Thermal Valley, or hike the volcanic trails of Yangmingshan National Park.

Food is part of the experience too. Besides healthy meals by the hotel’s chefs and dietitians, visitors can enjoy local dishes and the jiu-jia-cai banquet tradition. Meanwhile, the Taiwan Tourism Administration lists the hotel as Muslim-friendly.

What to Ask Before Any Overseas Health Check

A health-focused trip does not mean travelling because someone is unwell. Nor should it replace your doctor at home. Travellers should therefore keep their reports and follow up with their regular doctor.

Before booking, Malaysians should ask a few key questions:

  • Which tests are recommended, and why?
  • Who will interpret the findings?
  • When will the results be available?
  • What happens if an abnormality is found?
  • How can the results be shared with doctors back home?

An Easy Addition to a Familiar Taiwan Journey

Malaysian passport holders currently enjoy visa-free entry to Taiwan for stays of up to 30 days. This makes it easy to fit a Taipei health screening into a wider Taiwan itinerary. For more on health trends in the region, read about Health Summit Asia 2027.

Ultimately, the goal is not to replace the reasons Malaysians visit Taiwan, but to add one more. A family holiday can also be a moment to care for one’s health and encourage loved ones to do the same.
